City of Salisbury Wreck (boat dive)
Boston
City of Salisbury wreck is a unique debris field located outside of the Boston Harbor Islands and is accessible by boat. The freighter was built in 1924 in England and was later grounded on Grave's Ledge, allowing the crew and cargo be removed. She had been carrying exotic animals, including 20 pythons, 40 cobras, 300 monkeys and 20 crates of rare birds. The day after she was grounded, the stress of the tides caused her to split in half. She was later blasted with much of her steel removed. It's today a debris field not resembling the beautiful freighter she once was. A unique place to check out, nonetheless.
Note the general area of Boston Harbor is heavy with boat traffic. We recommend using dive reels when there is limited visibility (also if there is fog) to help guide divers back to the anchor line.
