U-853 (wreck)

Rhode Island Sound

The World War II German U-853 is an advanced and technical dive site. The submarine lays in 130ft of water and is intact but she's deteriorating. She sank at the end of the war after destroying US cargo ship, Black Point, despite commands that all U-boats cease fire.

Divers will find the periscope, conning tower, and blast holes in the hull.

U-853 is known to have currents and at times very limited visibility. We recommend reels, lights, strobe and DSMBs.

Note this dive site is a gravesite and it is also a protected dive site.
