Fort Constitution- UNH Pier

Portsmouth

Like Pierce Island, Fort Constitution is an advanced dive and should only be done with someone familiar with the site and tides given strong currents in between slack tide. You need to be very comfortable diving in currents before diving here, especially with how silty it is.

Divers usually enter/exit to the left of the pier but one can also enter/exit to the right of the pier- but don't go too far out as you may interfere with NOAA or USCG operations. To the left of the pier is mud and muck and it can get very silty but if you are persistent, you may find old artifacts such as antique ceramic pipes. Most of the divers remain directly under the UNH Pier checking out the critters and the LOADS of anemones on the pillars and underneath the pier. During winter months, this site is popular for Macro photographers for the abundant amount of nudibranchs. Extremely tidal. Beware and know you tide math before attempting this site as there is heavy boat traffic and strong currents.
